Ingredient Spotlight : Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has always been extremely popular thanks to its incredible benefits to the skin. It’s considered to be nature’s own wrinkle fighter, an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, a hypoallergenic analgesic and an excellent source of vitamins A, D, and E.

Jojoba oil is technically a wax ester with similar properties to our skin’s natural sebum. It has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin and nourish it from the outermost layers. Jojoba oil can be used on any skin type, even sensitive or acne-prone skin. When people say they are using jojoba oil, they are most likely talking about the wax ester.

Jojoba oil is a great starter oil for people who aren’t accustomed to applying it to their faces. Compared to other facial oils, it is lighter and more easily absorbed into the skin.

Jojoba oil penetrates skin much better than water-based moisturisers. This means it doesn’t evaporate when applied to the face, which is an important distinction. Studies have shown that jojoba oil can deliver a substantial layer of moisture that stays on the skin for a long time, and continues to disperse its beneficial properties long after application.

Jojoba oil has no detrimental effects on skin acne. It contains natural antimicrobial agents that discourage the growth of skin bacteria, which in turn helps to reduce acne. Because jojoba oil is highly similar to our skin’s natural oils, it tricks the skin into believing it has made enough oils. By imitating the skin’s natural processes, it balances skin oil production without promoting acne.

Jojoba oil is excellent for people with sensitive skin, including those with eczema and psoriasis. It has a gentle nature and causes little irritation; in fact, it can even reduce the likelihood of flare-ups when used on skin damaged by eczema or rosacea. This is due to its anti-inflammatory properties, which help calm and soothe skin. Additionally, jojoba oil contains 8-complex vitamins and Vitamin E which support skin repair and can alleviate damage.
